This is the latest version of the DivX codec and DivX player for Windows XP/2000, which is fully backwards compatible with all previous versions of the codec. When you've completed the installation of the DivX codec, your favorite media player should be able to play movies which need a DIVX, DIV3, DIV4 or DX50 decompressor. For more information about installing the codec, check out the DivX codec section. There you will also find Mac versions of the codec.

DivX codec v5.2.1 (Windows ME/98)

This is the most recent version of the DivX codec and DivX player for Windows ME/98, and it's completely backwards compatible with all older versions of the codec. After you've finished the installation of the DivX codec, your media player should be able to play movies which require a DIVX, DIV3, DIV4 or DX50 decompressor. For more information how to install the codec for Windows, goto the DivX codec section. There you will also find alternative versions of the codec.

DivX codec v3.11 alpha

This is the original version of the DivX codec for Windows. Please note that we simply provide this old and outdated version of the codec for those that might need it for their older/slower computers that experience problems with skipping with newer versions of the codec. If you already have a newer version of the DivX codec installed that is working properly then you don't need to install this one. After installing this version of the codec, your media player should be able to play movies which require a DIV3 or DIV4 decompressor.

XviD codec v1.1.2 NEW

This is the latest version of the XviD codec, which makes it possible to play and create XviD videos. After you've successfully installed the XviD codec on your system, your media player of choice should be able to play XviD movies which need an XVID decompressor. For more information about installing the codec for Windows, check out the XviD codec section. There you will also find a Mac alternative for XviD.

SVCD codec

SVCD just like DVD relies on the MPEG-2 codec for compression. While the compression isn't as good as what you can achieve with MPEG-4 based codecs such as DivX and XviD, this format has become popular because it's possible to view burned SVCD movies in many stand-alone DVD players. If you want to watch SVCD movies directly on your computer you first need to install this codec. After you've installed the SVCD codec on your computer Windows Media Player should be able to play SVCD movies.

SMR codec

If you have a movie with SMR in the file name you need to install this codec on your system if you want to view the movie. It is a hack of the MPEG4-encoder (mpg4c32.dll) and the only difference between the original encoder and SMR is that the FOURCC (four bytes in the header, which identify the video stream) has been changed to MP43. After you've installed the SMR patch on your computer, your media player should be able to play movies which require a MP43 decompressor. The patch should only be installed if you really need it.

DivX codec

The format was developed to enable users to play and create high-quality videos in a fast and convenient way, while still maintaining the best quality possible. The DivX codec is currently the most popular MPEG-4 based codec because of its quality, speed and efficiency as well as the wide range of DVD players that support DivX.

If you compare DivX movies to DVDs they're able to offer the same image quality at one-tenth (1/10) the size, which makes them perfectly suited for movie downloads where the bandwidth available usually is limited. This means that you can easily fit a full movie on a single CD, while still maintaining the original image quality of the DVD. The video is usually combined with AC3 or MP3 audio to provide both high quality audio and video. All of these things have contributed to the popularity of the format among those that download movies and videos online.

When you install the DivX codec it essentially works as an add-on to your system, which enables you to compress and decompress video in the DivX format. Once you've installed the DivX codec on your system you will be able to watch DivX videos using Windows Media Player or any other player that supports DivX.

DivX codec v5.1.1 for Mac OS (2.1MB)

XviD codec

The format was created to offer a free alternative to other commercial video codecs, and despite being open source its quality and efficiency has made it one of the most popular video codecs online. While XviD still isn't as widely used as DivX, playback of XviD movies is usually supported in new DVD players nowadays.

The XviD codec makes it possible to compress a full-length DVD-quality movie enough to fit on a single CD (might require 2 CDs depending on the length of the movie), while still maintaining the original image quality. Despite the fact that XviD movies offer higher quality video at smaller file sizes they take less time to encode than MPEG-2 due to the incredible compression technology. The video is usually combined with MP3 or AC3 audio to enable both high quality video and audio. These factors and the fact that the codec is distributed for free has contributed to the success of the format.

When you install the XviD codec it basically provides your system with specific instructions how to compress and decompress video in the XviD format. Once you've installed the XviD codec on your system you will be able to play XviD videos using Windows Media Player or any other XviD-enabled player.

Windows Media Lite

Some tools (like nLite and XPlite) allow you to remove Windows Media Player from your system or even prevent it from ever being installed. The downside to this is that vital components for Windows Media playback are also removed. As a result you won't be able to play Windows Media files in your browser or in your favorite player. A solution for this problem is Windows Media Lite, which restores those vital components. This package can also be used to install the Windows Media codecs. 98SE/ME/2000/XP/2003 Version 2.4.0 (9.07 MB)

Zoom Player

Zoom Player

Zoom Player was originally conceived to fill a void in Multimedia playback. Prior to Zoom Player, playing media files on the PC was either overly simplistic for the Power User or overly cryptic to the common user. Zoom Player tries to both simplify the playback experience for the common user, while giving the Power Users all the tools and interfaces they may require to manipulate their playback environment to their exact specification.

Zoom Player is capable of playing all common media formats and quite a few of the not so common, including:
AVI, Matroska (MKV), QuickTime (MOV), Cellphone 3GPP (3GP), Flash (SWF), RealMedia (RA/RM/RMVB/RAM), Windows Media Format (ASF/WMV/WMA including DRM with WMV Professional version), OGG Movie (OGM), MPEG-1 (MPG/VCD), MPEG-2 (MPG/SVCD/VOB), MPEG-4 (DIVX/XVID/ISO), VP3-VP6, MPEG Layer 3 (MP3), Vorbis Audio (OGG), Dolby Digital (AC3), Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), MusePack Audio (MPC), FLAC Audio (FLAC), OptimFROG Audio, Monkey Audio (APE), True Audio (TTU), Wave Audio (WAV), CD-Audio.
